Earlier this year, there were rumors swirling that a second-generation version of AirPods Pro was set to be released during the first half of 2021. The first half of 2021 has come and gone, which either means the updated AirPods Pro will be released any day now or the rumors were wrong. Being eternal optimists, we choose to go with the former rather than the latter, but some are now saying that the release is likely to be this fall, when new iPhone 13 models are announced.

Here are some of the features and changes insiders are expecting with the second-generation AirPods Pro:

  • A shorter stem or perhaps even no stem at all for a more compact design. Apple is also reportedly testing a round design similar to that of Google Pixel Buds.
  • Minor changes in dimensions and design for the case.
  • Spatial audio support, Active Noise Cancellation, fast device switching and pairing, and Transparency Mode.

The new generation of AirPods Pro will still have improved sound quality over regular AirPods, in addition to sweat and water resistance.
