Huawei, a popular Chinese-based smartphone manufacturer, has already been banned in the US by the current government administration. This means that they are banned from using US networks and any US company must seek approval before supplying Huawei with any technologies. Google will be one of the major companies pulling the plug on them. As of May 19th, Google announced that Huawei will no longer have access to the Android operating system updates. This means that certain apps, such as Google Play Store, Google Maps and Gmail will be unavailable to future users. However, existing users and devices that are already in circulation will still have access to Google’s applications. In addition, Google will no longer be offering technical support. Chip designer, ARM, also severed ties with Huawei to comply with the government’s ban on these devices.
